I would read the fine print, but then I would have to admit I needed glasses.

The Boy calls me, "Can you go online and see what's playing."

I start rhyming off movies, "Do they accept passes?"

That doesn't sound right. What exactly do they mean? Those tickets are paid for, just because I buy that shit ahead of time, I don't get to use them at this movie?

My employer is fixing to send me ten of those things. Even if they are free to me, someone is paying for them, this can't be right.

"They have been doing that forever, Mom."

"Not for long."

So I call the local theater. A teenager answers, "Hi, my name is Dean, how can I help you."

We get the pleasantries over with, "I just have a question. I am on the website and it says The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (No passes accepted). What exactly does that mean?"

"Oh yeah, we don't accept passes for those movies."

"So, your telling me that if I buy movie passes I can't use them to see whatever movie I want to? I didn't see that in any of your sales material. How's that marketing ploy working out for ya?"

"Well, you can still see the movie, just not use a pass."

"Does that sound logical to you? Do you tell people that before you sell these things, that yes you are paying full price for a movie, but only the ones we think we can't make money on any other way?"

After stuttering a bit, "Uh, just a sec." He yells for his manager.

Before she starts, "I know this has to be a misunderstanding. Even if I get these passes free as a gift or a reward at work, someone, somewhere is paying for it. Money has changed hands at some point. I think that my employer would love to know that the 'incentives' they are handing out are essentially worthless and perhaps they should change to Burger King gift certificates or something."

"Oh no. I apologize, it is a bit confusing. When we say 'no passes' we mean in the event that something went wrong during one of the movies, we give out free passes to another one. Those are the passes we mean."

"Well, that makes sense but do people know what you mean?"

"Huh?"

"Because it isn't really clear on the website. Perhaps you should take steps to educate the public, starting with the kid that answered the phone."

I went on to ask her specifically what 'passes' were accepted. Air miles, movie money, night out for two, etc. She assures me that only the passes that are handed out by the theater, free for whatever reason, are the ones that are restricted. And that these are only restricted for the first ten days that a so-called 'blockbuster' is playing. These 'free' tickets will clearly state this restriction on them under the terms and conditions.

Now, here is the bigger question. How many of you thought that you couldn't use your prepaid gift card, or airmiles movie passes for these movies and went ahead and paid cash for admission?

I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was not there intention to mislead the public. However, it is interesting that the kid that was answering the phones was under the same impression as my son.

What is pissing me off right now?

Let's see:

- Ants in my bedroom/office. I took me a day to figure out where they were coming from. Old windows, cracks in the molding. FUCK ME, I hate crawly things.

- Environmentalists. Just fuck off.

- Commercials that use cartoon animation to illustrate how their product works. "Oh, the pill causes those red arrows to turn blue, so it must relieve headaches too." What? Who falls for that shit?

- Wildlife. I don't give a shit how cute raccoons are, I need them to fuck off or I need them dead. Either way, I am ok with it.

- Not-so-wild life. This means the cats that reside in my home. They contribute nothing to society and they wake me at 4am to let them out. FUCK OFF! If I figure out how to off the raccoon, you will be right behind it.

- Gas prices. There is no reason for us to be subject to gas prices set by foreign countries. If we didn't have so many tree huggers, we would be able to produce our own oil or other fuel alternatives. If Brazil can do it, why can't we?

I will tell you why, cuz those nuts are hell bent on saving the Spitting Shit Fly of Nunavut, so we can't drill in the north.(just one example)"OOOO we have to preserve the beauty of the wilderness." Why? I ask you. I don't see them spending their vacations there, giving those people an alternative source of income. They are so much more interesting to see in documentaries, the shacks, the igloos, eating whatever they can chase down. (Not seal though, we have been over this) "Oh I don't ever intend to set foot there, (insert snotty British accent) but I don't want you to ruin it, on the off chance I might want to some day." Yes, Paul. Whatever you say, Paul. (kneel and kiss the $400 alligator shoes)

- Paul McCartney. For so many reasons, including the above. I could go on about him for hours.

- Oprah. I blame her for everything.

- Mac commercials. Vista is not buggy. Hardware vendors have just been draggin' their asses on driver updates. I have been using Vista for a year without incident. "Oh but you have to perform expensive upgrades to your PC in order to run it." Are you serious? Upgrading a PC is cheap. You know how you upgrade a Mac? Throw it out the window and buy a new one. Don't get me started.

- Drivers.

That'll do for now.

Procrastination Queen gets a visit from Aunt Flo.

I kept putting off getting my Depo shot. Which I am supposed to be getting every three months. Somehow I managed to let it drag on to five.

And what do you suppose my reward is for maintaining the monarchy? My first visit from Aunt Flo in four years, that's what!

As long as I was getting injected with Depo, Flo could not home in on my location. That obnoxious, lowlife, miscreant, shithead, skite, wretch, pig-sucking quiff. She found me.

I had to go purchase ... tampons! Do you realize what those things cost now? Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Mind you, as soon as I got my shot she was gone the next day. But I am still completely traumatized by the whole visit.

I vow never to let that happen again. Ever!

They are cute...but they are food.

They are just food. Food that, some people believe, if left to multiply like rabbits, would wipe out other food sources. Whether that is true or not, they are just food, and of course pelts. A "significant" source of income in many remote, coastal communities.

The seal hunt is not just a sadistic slaughter its a managed annual cull. Did I mention people eat them? I don't see you having a telethon for the cod fish, Paul. Oh, that's right, they aren't cute. (Oh and he doesn't pose with the seals that are actually part of the hunt, just these cute baby ones, who haven't been hunted since 1987, he almost got arrested for being this close one.)

So Paul McCartney thinks the seals are cute. Well, so is Bambi, but you aren't trekking through the woods of Tennessee and getting between Bubba and his ten point buck. No. Cuz Bubba would pop a cap in your ass. Whereas Canadians just ask you politely to step aside.

Tragedies have marked the seal hunt
this year. More than usual and I can't help but wonder if they are truly accidents.

The Sea Shepherd Society seems to be more aggressive this year compared to other years, (most likely because of Paul) going so far as attempting to water hose sealers as they are walking the ice flows. This is not some cast-a-net-and-haul-it-in operation, you have to get off the boat and walk on the ice flows. Very dangerous work.

Then the idiot captain of the Sea Shepherd, Paul Watson, makes some bone-headed comment after four sealers lose their lives when their boat capsizes.
"the deaths of four sealers is a tragedy," but added "the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of seal pups is an even greater tragedy."

"They are vicious killers who are now pleading for sympathy because some of their own died while engaged in a viciously brutal activity."

I kid you not!

Oh, but they are surprised by the reception they get when they try to dock at Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Sailors were quick to make them aware that they were not welcome and cut their lines to set them adrift.

I know the face of the seal hunt protest is a cute little, furry, white baby seal. What they don't tell you is that baby seal hunting was banned in 1987. (BTW, the seals' white coats disappear after four weeks, while those animals killed in the hunt are eight weeks or older) People really need to get the facts before they just jump on Paul McCartney's band wagon. But I guess if they did, Paul Watson would have to get a real job.

FACT: A seal can eat 2-3 kilos of fish a day. The population is estimated at 5.5 million seal. The quota for the cull this year is (I believe) 270,000 seal. For some sealers, the seal hunt represents up to one-third of their annual income.

It is not just done, willy nilly, its called management of the fisheries, Paul, go fuck off somewhere!

Thank you, Godfather.

The writer's strike is only going to make things worse.

Parking Wars - It can't be about the obvious, right? Oh but it is. It is like Cops, only its meter maids. I kid you not.

Seems like George Clooney has had enough, he won't let this go on to fuck up the Oscars. He'll make them an offer they can't refuse.

Apparently George is Don Vito Corleone.

'Nice girls' don't put it in their mouthes.

SUZIE: "Licorice anyone? Evel?"
ME: "Naw, don't eat licorice."

SUZIE: "You don't like it?"
ME: "Can't swallow it." She gives me a quizzical look. "I have problems swallowing lots of things, pills, french fries, nuts..."

SUZIE: "You should have that checked?"
ME: "Have what checked?"

SUZIE: "Uh, the swallowing thing?"
ME: Deadpan."I'm a nice girl, I spit."

ROAR!

Add 'Appliance Repair' to the resume.

This fuckin' thing decided that it would stop draining in the middle of laundry the other day. After two days of sitting in the corner, half full of water, you can imagine how pretty it smelled. The Boy was already tormenting me on my backup plan to have his clothes laundered.

I cannot ignore the smell any longer so I start to bail it out. As you well know, manual labour and I have a strained relationship (no pun intended) so after a minute or so I just say, "Fuck this, I am going to fix this mo'fo!"

Sounds impressive until you realize I have no idea how to fix it. But when has that ever stopped me? I gather what tools I think I might need for the job. All I could come up with is a screw driver and a flashlight. I had no idea what I was doing.

So I crack the thing open and turn it on. You know, so I can see what is not working. Brilliant, except I don't even know what I am looking at. I am on all fours, feeling very plumber'ish, I think I might have even had some butt-crack action going on. At this point I decide to turn the dial to 'drain'. An action that immediately activates this little doohickey.

Excuse the picture...it was dark in there.

I shine the flashlight at it, not really knowing what I am looking for but I see there is something in there, something dark. Again, not knowing what is supposed to be in there, I foolishly decided to check it out. So I unplug the machine and crack that puppy open.

Guess what? That doohickey is what contains the rubber plug that allows the water to drain. Ya, a flood of three day old water. As I am trying to quickly decide whether to jam the thing back on or just let it drain and hope that I can control the flood with the contents of the nearby laundry basket, this comes flying out at me.

Nice, eh? Like something out of a horror movie. This picture truly does not do this thing justice. It was slimy and smelly and I swear to God it moved!

Decision made. I get as far away from the creature and work on stemming the flow of water into the rest of the apartment. The water finally stops without too much damage. I sneak up on the creature, scoop him up and fire him in the toilette.

Convinced he was the reason for the drainage problem, I reassemble the washer.

The moment of truth. I fire it up, and IT DRAINS!

I have Mad Skills!

Note to self...

Never go see your doctor to have your blood pressure checked after running around doing errands in lunchtime traffic, drinking coffee and eating an entire bag of jelly beans.

And don't try and talk your way out of it.....She has an automated machine, 159 over 96.

The woman is very droll, "It is higher if you talk."

"Ok, I will shut up now."
It didn't help. I failed the test

Just for that I get blood tests, pelvic exam and a mammogram next time. (Looking forward to having my tit pop liked a zit when the hydraulics malfunction.)

The bitch is not playin'.

Summer vacation is over. Thank Fuck!

Sometimes the boy will ask a question I know the answer to, but don't. Does that make sense?

Mostly he will ask me questions that he knows I don't have the answer to and could never know.

"Why is the sun yellow?"

Ok, I could probably find out the answer to that, but I am busy catching up on live feed updates for Big Brother and I don't give a fuck why the sun is yellow. He does this, I realize, just to get on my last fucking nerve. I can not wait until school starts.

He sees that I am reading something, so he starts.

"What is Labour day?"

"It's a holiday for workers."

"But why do schools have it off?"

"Teachers work."

"But why..."
I know he really doesn't give a flying fart about any of this, he is just trying to bug me. I should have called the little bastard Butt Why, he says it enough.

"Why are you wondering about this? You have Google, don't you?"

So, here it is. Everything you ever wanted to know about Labour Day.

Have a good one.

The subconscious knows.

I am getting a call monitor review from my senior tech, Derwood. Basically he listens to the call and grades me on how I did. I usually spend the time arguing one point or another. Not because I disagree necessarily, but it wastes time. Time that I don't have to spend on the phone helping some schmuck. Plus it is really fun giving Derwood a hard time.

For instance, he notes that I used the word 'wonky', and that I was lucky the customer was British so he knew what it meant.

"Don't you know what it means?"

"It's slang isn't it?"
We are not suppose to use slang,

"Of course it is not, I would never use a slang word!"

I have no idea if it is slang or not, but I have a 50-50 chance that if it is not, he will change my score. So I act like I am absolutely certain and make him look it up. He heads to Merriam-Websters.

Drum roll please...
Main Entry: won·ky
Function: adjective
Inflected Form(s): won·ki·er; -est
Etymology: probably alteration of English dialect wankle, from Middle English wankel, from Old English wancol; akin to Old High German wankOn to totter -- more at WENCH
1 British : UNSTEADY, SHAKY
2 chiefly British : AWRY, WRONG

"Well it is mainly British, if he wasn't British he wouldn't know what it meant."

"I am not British and I know what it means."
As I am speaking he is frantically googling 'wonky' for another definition. His eyes light up, he turns the screen so I can see the entry for Dictionary dot com and gives me an 'AH HA' look.
won·ky /'w??ki/
Pronunciation[wong-kee]–adjective, -ki·er, -ki·est.
1. British Slang.
a. shaky, groggy, or unsteady.
b. unreliable; not trustworthy.
2. Slang. stupid; boring; unattractive.

He says, "It's on the internet, so it must be true."

"Oh please, Dictionary dot com? I have never heard of them."

"Ok, you pick one."

"Ok, if this next one says adjective, you will change the score?"
He is confident, he agrees. "Fine, check out Funk & Wagnalls." And I sit back, confident. He does not know what I know.
Main Entry: won·ky
Function: adjective
Etymology: probably alteration of English dialect wankle, from Middle English wankel, from Old English wancol; akin to Old High German wankOn to totter -- more at WENCH
1 British : UNSTEADY, SHAKY
2 British : AWRY, WRONG

As he is changing my score I am bursting to tell him that the site he chose when he searched for Funk & Wagnalls, took him to Britannica. When you search Britannica and choose dictionary, like he did, it pulls it from Websters. You will notice, although he did not, that it is the same, word for word.

Like shootin` fish in a barrel.

The absolute best part of this? As he closes the tool, I get a look at his desktop wallpaper and I lose it. I could not stop laughing. He is looking at me like I lost my mind, "What?"

"Crayons, priceless!" I continue to laugh, harder since he doesn't realize what it means.

"What? I think it's a cool picture." He still can't see why I would be laughing.

I can't stand it, I have to walk away. You can fill him in, Yvette.

Makes ya proud, eh?

Heritage Minutes, I cringe every time one comes on the TV.

I don't know what the hell these people are thinking, but I hope none these brain dead videos are seen in any other country.

Most of them broadcast some stupid fuck up that is supposed to make us proud to be a Canadian, with a voice over that says, "So-and-so was wrong but..."

Ever wonder why we are called Canada? We had an idiot translator! Nice.

Woo Hoo, lets not forget we killed one Chinese man for every mile of the Canadian railway. Cheerful.

And, of course, we did realize that water puts out fire. Brilliant.

Our most famous Canadian Indian, was neither Canadian nor an Indian. So apparently we are gullible.

And my personal favorite, how Jean Nicollet got lost looking for the Pacific ocean and all he found was lake Michigan.

Maybe that is why Canadians give such fucked up directions. It all started with an Inukshuk.
